YPA Read-a-Thon

Read-a-thon Update:

As you have seen in the sidebar information on the Weekly Countdown emails, we are currently in the middle of our very first Read-A-Thon!  Here are a few reminders and a small change in plans. You should now be in the reading phase.  The reading will take place from July 1-15.  Make sure to keep track of your reading. You will find a reading log on the YPA website. You can continue to collect pledges during this time.  July 16-30 is the time for you to collect the money from your pledges.  On July 30th  you will have a chance to bring your money to the YPA campus, which will be during our Scholastic Book Fair.  We will have some grade level "get to know you" activities to participate in.  Due to summer vacations we have moved the ice cream party to the first Friday of school. This will allow for those who are away over the summer to participate.  If you participated in the Read-A-Thon you will be invited to attend this party.  If you will not be here on the 30th  you can mail your pledges and  pledge form.  Thank you for your continued support, and keep reading!

Dear YPA Families,

York Preparatory Academy is pleased to encourage a lifelong love of reading while earning much needed funds for our Library Media Center. This month we are kicking off our first annual Read-a-thon.

Our goal is to earn $20,000. All of the funds will go toward purchasing books and equipment. And all students who participate are invited to attend an ice cream party on July 30th (location TBD).

Here is how the Read-a-thon works:

1) Collect Pledges | June 15 – 30

Please help your children collect pledges from family and friends based on the number of pages they will read. A flat dollar amount can also be pledged. The names of donors and pledge amounts should be kept on the attached Pledge Form.

2) Read | July 1 – 15

Any reading counts including reading to your children. Parents and students should keep track of all reading to ensure they are “earning” their pledges.

3) Collect Funds | July 16 – 30

Please assist your children in collecting pledges based on what they read. If appropriate, use this opportunity to re-enforce important character attributes of honesty and integrity. They should only collect pledges if they’ve kept their commitment to read.

4) Turn in Funds & Party | July 30th

All children who have participated in the Read-a-thon are invited to the Ice Cream Party where they can turn in the funds they collect. The Pledge Form should be turned in with all funds in a sealed envelop. If parents cannot make the ice cream party, please mail the funds to the following address:

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the Ice Cream Party.

Best Regards.
