The mission of the York Preparatory Academy (YPA) is for the faculty, staff,students, parents, and community to provide an engaged learning environment that leads to the success of each individual student, while also challenging these students to become life-long learners, independent thinkers, respectful individuals, and responsible citizens thus preparing them for a 21st century global economy.
With this mission, in accordance with the South Carolina Charter Schools Act, YPA will:
- Improve student learning
- Increase learning opportunities
- Utilize productive teaching methods
- Establish new forms of accountability for schools
- Create new professional opportunities for teachers
To succeed in this mission, the individual need of each learner is the core of YPA’s mission striving toward South Carolina’s goal of achieving excellence though individual successes with every child served. |

We currently have ALL 42 members of the YPA Staff under contract or committed with Letters Of Intent (LOI). The YPA webpage has each of these new faculty with their accommodating pictures and bios as they have been made available. The Board has approved each of these candidates with a unanimous affirmative vote as they have been presented over the past four months. We have local candidates and some from long distances, yet all of these new YPA additions are Highly Qualified to teach and have been through a rigid hiring process that consisted of a prescreening, assessment screening, interviewing sessions, background checks, and an application process. This summer, each of these faculty members will go through training and orientations to get them up to speed as to what the YPA culture is all about: high parental and community involvement, high academic standards, high behavioral expectations, high levels of project-based learning, and a high value on the individual learner. We are excited to move forward with these highly passionate and eager teachers!

- Those who can run are: parents, community members, and previous Board members. No one candidate can serve for more than 4 years in total. There is no campaigning on campus at any time unless it is a designated Board of Elections event sponsored by the Election of Board Committee.
- There will be a required training session for board candidates on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 from 8:30am to noon at the YPA Campus. An alternative training session will be on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 from 7-10pm at the YPA Campus.
- The slate of candidates will be published on Sept. 28, 2010.
- There will be a “Meet the Candidates” event on October 28, 2010.
- The Board election will be held on October 30, 2010.
